Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search box is sent to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Richmond County Criminal History does not keep a separate log or copy of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to review it and respond. It is handled within the site team and is not disclosed outside the organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, standard server and analytics systems may collect basic technical information about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring site, when one is reported
- Visited pages and approximate time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help produce grouped traffic measures, such as popular pages and common exit points. A browser can reject or remove cookies through its settings, although disabling them may change how some site features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Understanding which resources visitors use most
- Routing a search request to the selected outside provider
- Operating, securing, and improving site performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Richmond County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to NYPD report channels, Richmond court clerks, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, NYC and state custody systems, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a third-party criminal record or consumer report, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted through a tool is governed by that provider's privacy policy, including its rules for retention and disclosure. Those choices are beyond this site's control. Read the provider's terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links lead to NYPD and NYC pages, court portals, New York State agencies, legal-aid organizations, and outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to recognize activity across websites and select ads. That processing occurs under the advertiser's practices.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. Limited data may be available to:
- Advertising networks that serve ads
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers processing a visitor's submitted query
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security, so this policy cannot promise that unauthorized access or another breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If such information is identified, a deletion request may be made.
Your Data Rights
Rights can differ with a visitor's residence and the law that applies. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs access to covered government-agency records, not data held by this private site. Visitors may still ask this site to:
- Provide a copy of personal information held about them
- Correct information that is inaccurate
- Delete personal information when applicable
- Honor an available opt-out from certain processing
